Asylum is the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Disturbed. It was released on August 31, 2010 in the United States through Reprise Records. The album is meant to take a fresh direction in the band's music career, while remaining consistent with the band's previous albums. Most of the lyrical content was inspired by aspects of frontman David Draiman's life prior to making the album. Disturbed is the reason I'm a metalhead. Their music did to me exactly what Disturbed wants it to do to fans: it makes me feel great, and back when I got the bejesus bullied out of me, I could listen to Disturbed and be able to pull myself together. In that way, Disturbed was really helpful to me. Disturbed is just as important to me now as they were then, although I'm proud to say I no longer get bullied by every prick wearing a 50 Cent hoodie and saggy jeans. That brief detour from the formula will likely draw in some of the bands detractors, but Asylum is hardly a rewiring of the bands sound. What Disturbed has always excelled at is machine-like execution of carefully plotted brutality, and the thirteen tracks that occupy Asylum are textbook examples of the Chicago-based outfits mastery of commercially viable, yet still cool enough for the fringe, modern metal
