We had the pleasure of interviewing the legendary Gary Numan. He opened up about his early days, making his first album on a Mini-Moog, having Anthony James Webb born 8 March 1958, better known as Gary Numan, is an English singer, musician, songwriter, composer, and record producer. He entered the music industry as the frontman of the new wave band Tubeway Army. After releasing two albums with the band, he released his debut solo album The Pleasure Principle in 1979, topping the UK Albums Chart. While his commercial popularity peaked in the late 1970s and early 1980s with the No. 1 singles Are 'Friends' Electric and Cars, he. With the success of the album Splinter, Gary Numan has finally come to terms with, and is proud of, his early work including tracks like Cars and Are Friends Electric that kick-started synth pop and heralded a new world of music technology back at the end of the 1970s. Andy Jones meets a very English man in LA and finds someone more at home with todays studio technology, but still coming to terms with newfound levels of respect. Yet the person who I would say did more for the tech in MusicTech albeit unwittingly was Gary Numan. Gary Numan on the success of his new album Savage: A British institution I'll take that The singer-songwriter landed his first Top 10 album in 35 years on this week's Official Chart. They say never judge a book by it's cover, nor an album by it's title. But when it comes to Gary Numan's new record, it's difficult not to. Called Savage Songs From A Broken World, the singer-songwriter's 22nd studio album is set in an apocalyptic, post-global warming Earth in the not-too-distant future that's not for the faint of heart. Gary Numan is an extraordinary musician, and its always interesting to follow his creative career. After experiencing many things and not always good on his musical path, creating new images and sounds, now Gary doesnt look back. Having released the album Splinter in 2013, he finally received a deserved recognition of critics, and the supporting tour was a really successful, and attracted many new fans. This year Numan releases, perhaps, his most ambitious and conceptual album called Savage, in which he reflects on what is happening in the world and what can wait for us in the end. Gary Numan, who is only now receiving the acknowledgement granted his post-punk contemporaries ITVRex Features . His influence has been proclaimed by artists ranging from Kanye West and Prince to Foo Fighters. Hip-hop producers sample his pioneering electronic experiments. 66 Bad year: 2011. 2011 really stands out for the cumulative impact of Cowellism, as the album charts were littered with the output of his telly talent shows, such deathless innovators as One Direction, Susan Boyle, JLS, Alfie Boe, Olly Murs pictured, Joe McElderry, Matt Cardle, Rebecca Ferguson and Will Young. Gary Numan: Its very hectic, a little worrying, but very exciting. With the new Splinter album just days away from being released its an important moment in my life. Im very hopeful, but also very aware of how difficult it is for things to succeed. But I do love what Im doing, Im very happy with the album and the initial reaction to it, so I have nothing to complain about. A belated happy 60th birthday to Gary Numan Our colleague Phil Blackmarquis caught up with Gary Numan for an interview at the Trix in Antwerp, before his gig there that night. They talked about the new album, inspirations, Trent Reznor, John Foxx and how the main riff of Are Friends Electric was discovered by mistake Your new album, Savage Songs from a Broken World is doing very well, I heard Yeah When it came out, it went to No. 2 in the British charts, which for me was a massive improvement
