Fantastic sounding record. I'd prefer this over the new Mofi 45RPM One-Step pressing since flipping a record every two songs kills the vibe. The distinctive percussive sound heard on the Mercy Mercy Me track ( a wood block struck by a rubber mallet) is especially transcendent. I never really picked up on it with other releases i've heard of this album. One of the best albums ever recorded.
Delan
Ampex indicates 1st Canada pressing (in this case) that is thicker than the comparable USA pressing of same vintage. It also has full dynamic range, some USA early pressings (and possibly others) are shunted at 19KHZ. Ampex went bankrupt in mid 70s.
Welahza
Sounds pretty good for a reissue, go for it the one on amazon right now, peace.
Brick my own
The tracklisting for this version above is wrong. This version has the additional tracks 'Sad Tomorrows' on side 1 and 'Head Title' on side 2.
Adorardana
I bought this about a year ago. There was no indication of colour until I opened it. It is a pale puke colour. Gross. However this sounds very good.
Ferne
My version is also a pinkish color. I uploaded a photo.
Dilmal
Does it sound good? I'm trying to find a good pressing of this record.
Nirad
Is anyone else's record on pink wax? Still no idea of a release year?
Bladebringer
I have own this same reissue since 2003.I was wondering about release year?
Mallador
I just bought this sealed. When was it reissued?
Lightseeker
I will try to find the exact date of the Tamla 180g reissue. Obviously the 1971 date refers to the initial release. It's hard to track down some of these later, special release dates.
Beazezius
My research says that it was released in September of 2005.
Daizil
AMAZING. The sound quality is something else. Have lots of great pressings on my collection but this is by far the #1 on all standards. Wow.
Uttegirazu
Those complaining about the transitions/segue's and/or having to flip the records over after 2 songs, are missing the point! Personally, I am not that into the segues to begin with, and this pressing is the BEST you will find anywhere at the moment. 45 rpm on 2 discs kicks butt.
LoboThommy
This release is amazing -- I mean, the music speaks for itself, of course, and the sound is incredible -- but the presentation is also fantastic.Love the look and feel of the box and its contents. My only complaint: my copy's sleeves are rather roughed up -- worn spots, scratches and such. Did anyone else find this to be true with their copy? Wondering if I just got a bit unlucky and should try for an exchange.
Zulkigis
the difference between this one step pressing and multiple other vintage and current pressings is hard to believe. an incredible achievement from a production standpoint. for me, the best thing about the incredible sound is that it makes the music that much more powerful. very grateful.
Kemath
A sonic wonder. Amazing experience. I cannot stop listening to it. Esecially the 3rd side "Right on". Perfectly silent vinyl.UD1S2-008A7UD1S2-008B2UD1S2-008C7UD1S2-008D2
Anayaron
The guy rating this 3 stars must have some serious buyer's remorse.
Winotterin
Wow, I have some audiophile records but this is unbelievable. Addictive, shows what is really possible with a record. Giant disadvantage, the really good discs sound bland afterwards and the good one does not want to hear from now on
Dandr
I now understand why all the fuss is about, it has a wow factor when I played it for the first time! Definitely one of my best records.
Vut
Wow, listening for the first time now and a couple of times the sheer impact of the sound made me jump.
Burking
Wow. I have heard multiple versions of this masterpiece of an album, on good high-end gear, and I have never, ever, even close, been this floored by the sound of this record. This is on another level of quality rarely heard on even the finest vinyl. Holy shit! Yes, it is expensive. The process is expensive and the market is limited but this is a solid investment if you love this album. I'm stunned...
Goldcrusher
Some of these reviews are ridiculous. If you can’t afford it, just focus on something else ????‍♂️
Kahavor
They'd be getting the BEST sounding pressing of this album. NOTHING beats 2 discs at 45rpm.
Qumen
Or, you know... Some people might just want to know what they're getting for this price.
Nuliax
Sounds amazing. Sure, 45 rpm and flipping is a pain but super clear gorgeous sound to one of the best albums ever recorded
Lynnak
While the transitions are odd flipping in the middle of each side as originally intended, the sound quality on this pressing is outstanding. 35 mins in 4 sides is a pain in the ass though. There's some sibilance in the first track that I have to a lesser degree on an early Tamla pressing, likely an issue with the master recording itself than the pressing here. The rest is as good as I've ever heard.Fantastic release. If this is a favorite album of yours, this may be the best sound quality you'll ever find. I'm not getting rid of my Tamla copy, but I'm glad I now have a new best sounding record in my collection.
Sharpbinder
Going to pass on this one: 1) Not loving the splitting of the tracks; the album is 2-sided for reason and this does affect the segue of a few songs. 2) $125 is excessive and a lot is about the packaging I surmise. Though nice, should not be such a factor in pricing. And if you have the 2009 1-LP MoFi version of this, it is spectacular and we do not need to reinvent the wheel here.
Jockahougu
I bought into the Ultra one step process! I love the quality and listening experience. However as stated by Mhirscher I dislike how the record was split up because of the process... there was plenty dead wax un utilized. So i don’t understand why they split songs that originally segued, I know this album intimately and it could have worked without touching the segued songs... it ruined my listening experience ...I’m going to retreat to the earlier mofi version.
Painwind
Music IS sound. There is no getting away from that fact.
interactive man
I don't think segue's are more important than sonics. In most cases, cross fading means you are getting a 2nd generation result, provided that the segue was done in the analog domain.
Flash_back
Absolute nonsense pure and simple obviously the music is everything but wouldn’t you want it to sound as good as possible???
Ckelond
Pure and simple: it's about the music. You are hung up on sound. I'm talking about the album as a piece of music/art. Yes, likely 45 will sound better so go for it if you like sound, but if you're into the music of this album, go 33.
Simple
Yep one for free and $25 in my pocket Isn’t the freedom of America Great shame on you !
Visonima
Yeah its a little sad that people buy 2 (the orders were restricted to 2 per person) then post one of their copies for double so they can cover their cost and end up with one for free. Shame.
Golden Lama
and it costs 125$ on Amazon.com and here are people selling it for more than 200€ :(
Blackstalker
Do we need to post reasons why we’re not buying something when we have an even heard it?really by the way the 2009 Mofi version has been selling for basically the same price used this is brand new and Cut at 45 which is superior to 33 and is on 4 sides for a reason i’ll pay for a better wheel every time.
Kit
"Supervinyl" ?!?! Oh my, what a time to be alive..
Itiannta
I’d say you’re getting most of the benefit from the 45rpm cut. The rest is the icing on the cake...
Voodoosida
It's not snake oil. It's not even a subtle difference. It is a pain to flip the sides and it does alter "the album experience". In the case of this album track 3 is faded and split over two sides, but that isn't usually a problem on most LP's. This is just a drop dead gorgeous sounding recording. I'd be interested in hearing a full 33 1/3rd version of this using the One Step process. I wonder how much more we're getting from 45rpm? Maybe offer both. I'll bet they all get sold either way. These things sound fantastic, there's just no getting around it.

3 steps in the process are eliminated, ensuring truer sounding masters.

It sounds like snake oil but I am curious as to what people's thoughts who own this are.
