Theatre Royal Drury Lane 8th September 1974 is a 2005 live album by English progressive rock musician Robert Wyatt, documenting a concert on that date at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London. The concert took place the year after Wyatt had fallen from a fourth-storey window and become paralysed from the waist down. Since the accident, Wyatt has used a wheelchair. The concert remains Wyatt's first and only live performance as a headlining solo artist. Douglas Wolk at Pitchfork gave the 2010 reissue a low score-only 4. 4 out of 10. While he called the band fantastic, he said egrettably, the sound quality is indifferent, and the performances don't particularly improve on their studio equivalents. Wyatt assembled something of a supergroup to play through Rock Bottom in 1974, including Mike Oldfield and Pink Floyd's Nick Mason, who contrast the avant. The result is a captivating live album. But as the newly released live album Theatre Royal Drury Lane ably demonstrates, Wyatt's music has a beguiling innocence and emotionality that is rare in any kind of pop music and almost non-existent in prog. The album recorded in 1974 but unreleased until now finds Wyatt at the peak of his powers, as he leads his friends from the English prog scene including Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and guitar wizards Fred Frith and Mike Oldfield through his roiling, careening music.
