Last Train to Satansville is the sixth EP release by English alternative rock band Swervedriver. Produced by Alan Moulder and Swervedriver, the EP was promotionally released in 1993 through A&M Records with a digipak packaging. The lead track Last Train to Satansville, which was included in the band's second studio album Mezcal Head, was also released as a single in 1994. The band's cover of The Who song, In the City, was included in the 1993 tribute album, Who Covers Who. Last Train to Satansville. The blazing, re-vamped version of Satansville features a Sun-style rockabilly shuffle beat which adds a further dimension of suspense to the original. Where Adam Franklin is a drunk-on-revenge killer on Satansville, he sounds like a heartbroken and desperate soul lost in the Mojave during Land of the Lost as he repeats the line So lost I can't live without your love. By all means, seek this one out. Released 1993. Last Train to Satansville Tracklist. Last Train To Satansville Lyrics. Jesus Lyrics. Satansville Revisited Lyrics. Prior to the JUGGERNAUT RIDES compilation, this was the only place one could have found "Cars Converge on Paris," an easy contender for the finest track in the band's entire discography. "The Hitcher" and "Land of the Lost" are stellar as well. How incredible was Swervedriver during this era that their best work was buried in the back end of CD single imports?

This is one of the most interesting and unique items in the Swervedriver catalog. It contains an edit of the title track (the trippy, extended outro excised), along with a radically different reworking of the same track with rolling, surf-style drums. The "revisit" is not as satisfying as the original, but still an interesting surprise. "Land of the Lost" is a totally unexpected love ballad covered in lazy slow motion guitar overdubs. "Cars Converge on Paris" is also downbeat, with a lot of ideas that reach beyond what you'd normally expect from Swervedriver, beginning with a ticking drum machine and evolving a Jah Wobble-esque bassline, layered with delicate chiming, soaring guitars, some of which mimic a string section hovering over twin guitar parts. "The Hitcher" is classic Swervedriver, a mid-tempo shifting groove with signature flanging, effects-propelled guitars and irresistable, melancholy melody. Lastly, their live-in-the-studio-one-take cover of The Who's "In the City" is a loose and fun spin through a left-field track by an important influence and inspiration. The best b-sides on this release ("Cars Converge on Paris" and "The Hitcher" specifically) are available elsewhere, but any fan of Swervedriver should absolutely seek this out; as far as I know, "Land of the Lost" appeared only on the out-of-print UK "Last Train to Satansville" single, and the Who cover appeared elsewhere only on a CD given away with a French music magazine.

"Land of the Lost" was later redeveloped into "Neon Lights Glow," which combines the original track with a cover of Kraftwerk's "Neon Lights." "Neon Lights Glow" is available on the "Juggernaut Rides" compilation, and is fantastic.
