Various Artists. Gatecrasher: Red. Your Rating. Overview . Gatecrasher Wet is the third Andrew Gallagher produced album for Gatecrasher, released in 1999. On 26 July 1999, the Sheffield-based club Gatecrasher released their third album, titled Gatecrasher Wet. Falls into the 'so good it hurts to listen to it' category of dance music, Sheffield superclub Gatecrasher's second album 'Red' firmly establishes the club as the UK's trance pioneer. The track list now looks so familiar, ATB's 9pm, Happinees Happening, Save the Whales, The World 99 - all huge clubland tunes. But when this album was released in the spring of 1999, few of these tracks were known. With so many clubs releasing dance compiliations it can be difficult to know what to choose. The second Gatecrasher album is a slight improvement over Gatecrasher: Black in my opinion. This one picks up right where the first one left off, giving us trance music from 1998-1999, and the good thing is it doesn't copy and paste a single song from the previous release. Onto this album, very great as a whole. It is not 'perfect' as there are one or two nitpicks but it is highly enjoyable and has definitely stood the test of time. The first CD is mind blowing! The first few tracks are very heavy dance tracks, and while they're not trance, the build up into heavy trance for the second half is excellent. Naming what worked well for the disc, it starts off with Garbage's When I Grow Up, we then have a Black Box look-a-like in Cevin Fisher's Burning Up, Fatboy Slim's Praise You, Jam & Spoon's wonderful Stella, HH*'s I.C.E. 794 which is seriously one of best songs I've ever heard, Origin's Wide Eyed Angel also gets a mention, Electrique Boutique's Revelation, one of my favourite trance hits of all time - Happiness Happening by Lost Witness, two back to back masterpieces including Ron Hagen & Pascal M.'s Forever and Solange's Messages, Johnny Shaker's Pearl River (Vocal Mix), Humate's Love Stimulation and it ends perfectly with Pulp Victim's The World 99. So while there may be a couple of forgettable hits here and there, I would still give it a top score because it did what many other trance albums couldn't, and that is blow me away.As for CD 2, sadly, much to the annoyance of many people reading this, I preferred the first. It is definitely more trance like than the previous, but that isn't always a good thing. What I found here was that many of the hits included were just straight hard trance, but lacked the emotional depth. Don't get me wrong, this will suit heavy trance fans more perhaps, depending on your tastes, but I really enjoyed Inflexion's Odyssey, Silent Harmony's Save The Whales although the Disco-Tech release would show a far superior version, Sundance's The Living Dream, Katcha's Touched By God, Gouryella's Gouryella, Signum's Feel The Pressure, Fridge's Paradise and Lovechild's Liberta. So overall, while those tunes are quite memorable and definitely worth a mention, the strong consistent quality was missing in the actual tunes. It is still a highly fun CD and I would recommend it to trance fans alike. In conclusion, I think on an overall basis, this release only just slides ahead of the original. It really presents a world of awesome trance and heavy dance music that anyone even of today could listen to and enjoy. The first disc is smashing and utterly amazing, and the second is still great despite being less appealing.

Katcha - Touched By God is not the Original Mix but the Alfie Conn Mix. A powerful anthem and so underated.

Who mixes this? Same question applies to GC Black. Both are legendary CD's.

atmdj2007 - this has been a source of on-going discussion as GC have never come out to state who mixed it in all this time. I have always wondered the same. I heard a rumour Scott Bond may well have mixed it but I can't back that up with anything other than rumour and hearsay. You'd think that whoever did put this together would want the world to know though wouldnt you? It is an exceptionally well-mixed album from start to finish. It's extremely hard to fault anything about the album and 18 years on i still love listening to it even now...
JUST DO IT
What version of Pulverturm is that?

I think it's the Quake version. I'm not 100% but I'm quite sure

Its something I'll keep forever and ever - timeless. Gatecrasher Red was released in the year of Trance - 1999, an amazing year. Luckily, Red manages to capture the part of the years trance in a non-commercial way, classic crasher style. So, why is it so special? Red not only has the most professional mixing I've heard on an album, but with such a stunning tracklist, you feel the songs were simply made for the album. Strange as it sounds, the colour of the album was perfect - the red seems to capture a certain atmosphere I've never expierienced, and the songs somehow match it. It was the same with Crasher Wet, sounds so fresh for the summer. It has such amazing character to it, the flow of quality music is always consistant. The album is started perfectly as ever on cd 1 (Plasma) with a song to set the mood of the album. Normally with crasher, its a breakbeat tune or just something that little different, but on red, its Garbage's 'When I grow up' , that was simply made to start an album like this. Indeed, when you listen to this, you may be dreaming what it was like to grow up, I know I have. But with its classic rhythm, it sets a nice taster of the album. The next few tunes is inspiring. To create a real uplifiting, party like atmosphere, crasher include Burnin, Cant get enough, and Praise you, all incredibly uplifting songs at under 2 minutes long each, simply to set an atmosophere for the album, and there wondefully mixed. You could easily talk about this album forever, theres so much to talk about. But to be cut long story short, you will not be dissapointed. Happiness Happening is one of my favourite songs on the album, but it would be so hard to choose as they are all exceptional songs. Cd2 (Future) Takes a slightly different angle to Plasma. Instead of a variety of different types of club tunes, its just pure non-stop trance. The years bug hit Gouryella is of course here, as well as dreamy tunes like 'My dreams will come true' and 'hear you calling' , not to mention the album finishing perfectly with the uplifitng 'Liberta'. 'Paradise' is another perfect song to sum up the album, with its choir like vocals that match the theme of the club itself - the main room is mocked out as a church. The song again is perfectly placed because on Plasma, Unity starts of the trance sound with Choir like vocals. The best example of mixing? Again, very hard, but the blending between Hear you calling and Atmospheres is exceptional and so seamless. Gatecrasher Red is simply made for the true clubber. Day or night, Red still sounds quality as what the songs did 7 years ago! But knowing that you own the orignal in a rare red velevet case is even more special. GateCrasher Red will never be topped by any other dance album in the world.. ever. The best trance and dance compilmation ever compiled!
